Rainbow poem

While my efforts to start a movement to have a Disney park fully accessible to all with even severe disabilities is starting slow, I am hopeful I can do the research and provide the analysis to make a stronger case.  In the meantime, I have been creating crafts for a bible camp for adults with moderate intellectual disabilities, and here is one of the crafts...

Because the group I am working with might have short attention spans, I did  most of the preparations beforehand, however it would be fun for kids to do the painting and other preparations...

Step 1: Cut a sheet of plastic canvas into a rainbow shape
Step 2:  Paint stripes of rainbow colors on both sides of canvas
Step 3: Cut strips of ribbon in rainbow colors long enough to lace through the plastic and hang down on each side several inches.  I bought thin ribbon at Walmart for 49 cents per roll, very inexpensive...
Step 4:  Print or have the maker write out a poem on a small square of cardstock.  Here is a poem I made up to go with the theme of the bible camp:

Just like a RAINBOW after a storm,
We follow the commandments

so that we can transform,
Into a person that is beautiful and bright,
Both loving and faithful in God's sight.

Step 5:  Have maker string ribbon through the corresponding color on the plastic canvas.  For this you need a plastic canvas needle - they are big and blunt so they are safe to use....
Step 6:  String pony beads or other beads on each end of the ribbon, tie a knot around the last bead on each side.  I am finding the knots come undone pretty easily though, so put a drop of glue on the knot.
Step 7: String the poem in the middle of the rainbow.
Step 8:  I provided a suction cup hanger to stick to the window.  It can also hang from the ceiling as a mobile...

I am thrilled with the response and have hopes and dreams of many more signing this petition.  One of the signatures is from someone in Korea!   So now how many countries can I reach?  I will have to look into how translation works!  Is it automatically translated, or do I need to use translation services to provide the petition in different languages?  I am excited to find out.
Next also is a video, but it needs to be really creative to get people's attention.  Maybe with some interviews of people that can't currently access Disney's wonderful parks and what it would mean to them to be able to go...hmmmm.  Got some thinkin' to do there, but if you have any ideas, please leave me a comment!

My dream job would be to work as a Disney "imagineer" for the disabled population.  I would help to create a park that is designed specifically for those children and adults with disabilities.  Far fetched dream as that may be, why shouldn't I try to get a project like that off the ground, whether I am involved in the planning or not?  Has Disney considered this before?  Surely they have, but why hasn't there been any development?  There is such great potential!   The people I know with disabilities deserve a place of fun and adventure that is fully accessible to them, and Disneyworld is the place to do it!  No one could do it better!  (Although if you have not heard of Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio, Tx. - drop what you are doing and go immediately to www.morganswonderland.com!)
So in an effort to begin the tiniest step of creating change at one of my favorite places in the world, I have started a petition.  Just how far can I make this go?  We'll just have to see...
